Outer Banks (Season 3) Review
Disclaimer: The following content may contain spoilers for Outer Banks (Season 3)
The Outer Banks series takes place in a town along the outer
banks of North Carolina that consists of “Kooks” (wealthy residents) and “Pogues”
(working-class residents). A teenage group of Pogues are commited in finding what
exactly happened to John B’s missing (member of the group) dad. Throughout
their search, they stumble upon treasure which could be tied to John B’s father.
The third season picks up with the group stranded on the Caribbean
island where they are rescued by an airplane which just so happened was being
flown by an employee of Ward’s (Sarah’s, a member of the group, father). Because
they are skeptical of this interaction, they get into an airborne fight that
ends up crashing the plane into the water. Immediately the group is bombarded with
armed men on ATVs. Throughout the rest of the season, the group faces many
conflicting situations with these men.
Season 3 premiered on February 23 with 10 episodes that
range from 45 minutes to an hour and 19 minutes. A comparison I would give this
Netflix show is a mixture of treasure hunting in National Treasure and teen
drama in Gossip Girl.
Personally, I enjoyed watching this season and I caught
myself binge-watching it within a couple of days. This is the kind of show that
almost feels like a movie so it is easy to lose track of time. I would rate the
this season an 9/10 and I docked it two points for one reason. The reason is I
felt the Sarah’s love interest with Topper (a kook) was unnecessary to the plot.
I understand it was used to show how John B’s focus shifted away from his
relationships and towards his dad’s treasure adventure. However, this love interest
was quickly brushed over shortly after John B found out. Other than that, I
loved the season and I am excited to watch season 4!
